Blackpool has been a seaside town since the 18th century when bathing in the sea became fashionable for its health benefits. As time moved on, Blackpool became one of the most famous seaside places to visit in the UK. Over the years, Blackpool has been a stage for hundreds of celebrities and stars, so it's fitting to have its own Showtown Museum.

At The Showtown Museum, you'll delve into the world of acrobats, comedians, dancers, and singers who transformed Blackpool into the show business hub it is today. This unique museum celebrates the resort's rich entertainment history. The museum is a treasure trove of Blackpool's entertainment history, with six galleries showcasing the best of the seaside. Each of the six galleries offers something special and tells the story of Blackpool, from its first visitors to the trials and tribulations of wartime and the celebrations of VE Day.

Have a look at the images from the past; who knows, you might spot an ancestor. The museum offers a comprehensive look at Blackpool's entertainment scene, from the world-famous circus and magicians to the 11km of dazzling illuminations and vibrant shows and elegant dancers.

You can also go behind the scenes and have a go yourself. Why not become the celebrity and light the illuminations or perform in a Punch and Judy show? Visitors can explore stories and objects from Blackpool Council’s own collection from the past, as well as loaned articles from the Victoria and Albert Museum.
